Document management systems are an electronic way to store and manage a variety of materials, whether they be electronic, or scanned images of hardcopy documents. Document management software provides relatively basic, but essential functionalities, and saves time and money on administration costs. Document management systems vary considerably in their scale, ranging from small, simple systems to large internationally utilized products. One way to think about document management systems is as the 21st version of file cabinets, but of course with a great deal more convenience and more unique features.
