Database Management System

A database management system is also referred to as a DBMS and is a means of not just storing but also changing and extracting information from an existing database. The term is broad, and can refer to simple software options for personal computers all the way up to massive systems.

A DBMS can operate either on a database server or a mainframe system and along with accepting and storing data input it can also help in the searching, sorting and reporting mechanisms that go along with data.

Many of these software products also include significant security features and offerings that allow for the customization of user capabilities.
