Vertical Market

A vertical market is one which providers specialize in products and services that are specific to one particular trade, industry or an extremely specialized group of customers. This is in direct contrast to a horizontal market, in which providers cater to a much broader audience, where targeted customers comprise a much larger group, and products and services can even be aimed at the generalized grouping of “everyone.”

When looking at vertical market software, these are products that are narrowly tailored to meet very specific industry or professional needs. One example of many would be point-of-sale software for the restaurant or hospitality industry.
